They don't need a pit. They call 'em, "Creeper Cops" for a reason. They'll get that creeper out in a heartbeat and camp under your truck until they find your checkbook. I avoid scales like the plague!

So you're pulling cans? You're leased on?

Only time I’ve got a monetary fine was in Monroe Louisiana, for a flat spot on a trailer tire. The fine was only $10.

What was the leak on the air tank? Fitting? Hose end? Or tank itself? Being audible without being sprayed with something wet to make it heard usually means pretty bad. Surprised with an audible leak on a chamber they didn’t do an oos. If it were leaking on spring release side that would mean compressor may never shut off as long as park brakes are released.

It was a very small pin hole, you couldn’t hear without being a few inches from under the tank. She took a video of it making bubbles on her phone for me. Chamber was a real small leak on service side also, I got no excuses I should have caught this stuff. I made myself a short rod to wedge on the brake pedal now so I can get my ear against all the brake parts. I dunno how everyone else does it but shutting the engine off and standing on the steps isn’t good enough to hear the leaks I had

There’s a couple of small pull offs just south of the state line that every now and again Oklahoma DOT will be sitting at. They’re not big enough (or safe enough) for them to setup portables or to be doing inspections, but they’re big enough to pull you over into where they can get their hooks in you. And as said earlier they tend to hang out down by where 177 meets 35, but they never sit there very long. I have on occasion went on under 35 and pulled into the casino/truckstop on the east side of 35 for a bit then pull back out toward the interstate and they’re gone.

It’s a decent little route, but it is in their backyard and they’re aware of it. Kansas scales up there have never bothered me. Although they’ve stopped me a handful of times there to dip my tanks, but never anything more than that. But Oklahoma? I haven’t touched an Oklahoma scale in loooong time.

Spray bottle with dawn soap. Or a good heavy car wash sponge full of dawn soap and a bucket of water to Wipe everything down and get the grime off the parts that cause corrosion. The thick soap in sponge will cling better and show every little leak that way were a spray bottle well not because it will just drip away and dry more quickly. In my experience with pinholed air tanks is you usually can’t hear them without the soapy wet unless it is dead quiet in a closed shop. Even a breeze makes it hard to tell sometimes.

Absolutely. I’ve got it patched right now a new tank will be here in a few days. I went ahead and replaced all 4 diaphragms in my 30 series cans also

Garmin needs to have the option to avoid scales, just like the option to avoid tolls. Same programming/code even...just different coordinates to work around.
