The real reason they never caught on was because new drivers would not know what gear they were in. Just took a little too long to train them so the big companies started ordering up denutted 18 and 13 speeds (9 speeds) and the regular 10 speed was just a little bit better on the rpm spread. Still it took some weeks of training so they have now opted for automatic transmissions. I love the big company selling point and the drivers who drank just a little too much KoolAid will tell you all day long how it helps them concentrate on the driving or that they are not as tired.
How come the Super 10 transmission never took off??

I love my super 10. Only would switch to a 13 or a 18.

We have a road construction company around here and the reason they switched to automatics was because they have less repairs to the trucks. No more grenaded rear ends or drivelines.
The reason for the 10 speed is that it is harder for a driver to grenade one of those than it is a 13 or 18.
Now for the super 10, the first time I got into a truck with one I saw the grey button and thought cool, an 18. Then the next thought was where the hell is the range selector. Took all of 5 minutes to figure out how to work it. -

Always liked a manual in a traffic jam, just find a gear that keeps the pace. You can tell the guys with the autos, they stop and start every 50 ft like a 4 wheeler. I counted a 4 wheeler in front of me one time and he put on his brakes 50 times to my once.
Plus, not much if anything is more boring than a back up. Playing with the gearing helps keep one’s mind busy. With an auto I would shoot myself.Blue jeans and bzinger Thank this. -
