That’s one of the best part about hauling some of the stuff we haul. Lots of the time you’re delivering someone’s new $100k toy. They are generally happy to see you.

I'm not gonna be anywhere close to that amount with all the sitting I do here. Don't get me wrong, I still like SPD, but this 'haul a load, sit 1 - 2 days, then haul a load" stuff is getting worry some...especially this time of year, what's it gonna be like over the winter months. I did a 750 mile run between Friday morning and Monday morning, now I will be sitting another 24+ hours waiting for a load. The guaranteed daily pay is o.k., but it doesn't pay my weekly bills, I have to make miles on top of that to make ends meet.

I’ll be honest with you, when I referred you I had no idea they were going to put you on that daily pay plan. In my opinion that pay plan is garbage, I for sure wouldn’t work for that. If I understand correctly there’s no performance bonus for going over 9900 miles? I believe that’s how Roadmaster group drivers get paid. No thanks.
Did they say you could switch to the salary program after 90 days? In my opinion the 9900 mile salary program is the way to go. You’re paid 9900 miles every month. They even removed some of the requirements that they could use to take away the guarantied pay.

As for sitting, it’s not ideal but with the type of freight we haul, there’s not always a load 50 miles away. I does get on my nerves too. Luckily we don’t haul a lot of seasonal type flatbed freight so we don’t so down much in the winter.

On this pay package we get $.05/mi safety/performance on the 10th's check for all of the previous month's miles...and SPD pays pretty close to actual...but it takes miles to make it...sitting here in a truckstop doesn't make miles. But, there were a lot of other company's empty flatbeds sitting here too, so there must not be much flatbed freight around this area right now. They've deadheaded me 400+ miles to get a load, and even Ravenswood is within that range.

One of the things I had to adjust to when I switched to open deck was taking time to get to know the team in the front office and letting them get to know me. To many drivers say they’ll do 700 a day and don’t, I know you will, but they may be seeing what works best with you.

I’m somewhat picky with my freight, and I have chosen to stay connected to a step which is not always the best choice - that’s me and you’ll figure out you. I also focus exclusively on my weekly earnings, I could care less about dead heads so long as they help to maximize my weekly number. And since I take a heck of a lot more hometime than you I’m sure things will turn around for you.

As @kylefitzy said not having purely seasonal freight will make a difference, while I believe we will all be slower this winter vs last, you’d be surprised how much customer freight still moves in the winter.

Learning anything new takes time and some deep breath’s, and maybe after 90 days you’ll decide to change pay plans, after all you’re the king of being out so why not get paid for it!

That's the thing, I am not pickey when it comes to what I haul. In fact, I have mentioned many times that I want to haul as many different types of freight on a wide variety of trailers so I can concentrate on learning how to secure right and tarp right before I have to add inclement weather into the equation. But with a lot of the loads I have had to wait on I hear the words ''we're waiting to see if our bid is accepted" which means broker freight. As far as deadhead, that doesn't affect me because I get per mile pay in addition to the guaranteed daily rate...so deadhead me as far as you need to keep me moving.

I meant no offense. I just asked a simple question. Everybody runs hard. At least they should do that for their company. If your making 130k, more power to you. I have never made that kind of money.

I wasn’t clear, I apologize. Everyone gets the 5 cent safety bonus. As far as I know daily rate drivers aren’t eligible for the 40cpm bonus for all miles over 9900 like all the other plans.

After 2200 miles, 6 days, lots of repositioning and an additional crane I got unloaded in Las Vegas. In two weeks I’ll head back and reload the same piece heading back to where I picked it up from. 87E65185-DC79-468B-A157-C0D18CB51FB1.jpeg

now down to long beach to load 2 12’ 6” wide crates for Wichita.

Yeah, we don't get the $.40/mi, but being on the salary plan wouldn't make me any more since I haven't cleared 9900 miles in one calander month since I have been here, and weeks like this won't help. Day 2 sitting in the same truckstop waiting on something. Travis called and made sure I knew they hadn't forgotten me and claims that I am #1 on the load list with more than one sales rep looking for a load. I just know I don't have another day in me, I am already looking at rental car costs from Toledo...a daycab local job would make more than I am getting right now and I am losing patience with a company that keeps hiring like there is no tomorrow just to leave them sitting without freight. Nice or not, nice doesn't pay the bills.

This I gotta try!! My local store is the after church, neighborhood, family gathering, meeting spot... Usually more clusters of socializers, than actual shoppers lol... Good luck just getting through the main isles let alone the smaller isles...
