Hello again, fellow drivers and their families.

Starting sometime in the next few months, the Midwest Petroleum Travel Plaza (which
many remember as the old Voss Truck Port) will began converting to a T/A. They are required
to keep Dottie's, the restaurant, for at least three years. I believe it will only be a franchised
location and not corporate-owned, but just thought I should let you all know.

I'm glad they're keeping the restaurant. It's sad they're being replaced with fast food crap.

I've noticed some of the franchised locations, especially the TA Express locations are still being operated as they were before becoming part of the TA. The stops in Nacogdoches and Carthage, Tx are well run with the only overt TA things there being the fuel islands and showers. Hopefully the owners of Midwest can continue to run their stop they way they have been.

I like that place and with the addition of TA maybe the parking lot will get the attention it desperately needs .
The showers are nothing to write home about either .

The day they close the restaurant is the day they lose my business. Perhaps even sooner if they try to strangle the restaurant into closing by wrecking the rest of the facility

I'm guessing the only attention it gets is, a bunch of "reserved" parking signs will be added to half the lot. The showers will go from $8 to $16 bucks.

I got to talking to a mechanic this week at the Whites Petro in Raphine, Virginia while getting my truck serviced. He told me something I didn’t realize, but it explains a lot, TA/Petro is a publicly traded company.

All the bean counters care about is making the investors and share holders happy, period. This guy had been at that location for 13 years, he’s a master tech, very knowledgeable. He’s looking for a new job, because they just changed the way they pay the shop personal. Instead of a straight hourly pay, it’s now an hourly and commission pay. I said “commission?” “Yep, they want us to upsell extras and spend less time on jobs, the more trucks we touch the more we make.” Unbelievable.

All the ta shops have been like that for quite some time..that’s probably why they don’t keep anyone and have a revolving door of mechanics

Salary and commission is pretty common.

As far as Dottie’s, stopped in there to eat in 2019 and was quickly reminded that smoking is allowed indoors in MO and haven’t been back. Same reason I wasn’t sad when Farris was bulldozed.

To be fair TA mechanics are known to be lazy time sucking dudes.
