What makes you think trucking is profitable if you don't have customers?

The industry and the economy is currently a dumpster fire. You also have no clue what you are doing. The days of throwing poop against the wall and having a good chance of it sticking are over. Trucking at this time with no knowledge AND hiring a driver won’t be your saving grace.

Well trucking is just transporting the warehouse businesses crap so if warehouse is slow,, trucking is going to be as well... It is tough out here right now for alot of people. Not saying u cant do it, but theres alot of knowledge not just about freight and how/where it moves at what time, and how to position yourself there before anybody else to make money. but you also need to understand the regulations and compliance in this business and record keeping just to stay compliant to keep your truck on the road in good standing... Its quite the learning curve even jumping from owner op contracting with a company to your own authority... I couldnt imagine going from no experience at all to own authority , although some have done it and been successful but it is going to be quite the uphill battle... If i was in your position i would focus on what i know right now, rather than trying to pivot to something else, with uncretainty about the economic future going forward.. Bad time to change teams in my opinion. Try to find a different angle within warehousing and see if you can find a way to get new customers or generate new business

    A very good point .

to the best of my knowledge warehousing is not highly regulated by the federal and state governments , with thousands and thousands of rules and regulations and taxes and inspections and forms to fill out daily weekly monthly etc etc .

I assume this is another hit and run one and done post , but I get the feeling this guy was making good money from ONE customer that they lost , and had all their eggs in one basket . And when that customer bailed , he doesn’t know what to do .

and your point about trucking is just transporting the stuff he was storing is spot on.
Except transporting it is much much higher risk than it sitting still in a warehouse .

and then the question about where to hire a driver ….
I’d guess they’ve been struggling to find competent warehouse employees.

finding a competent forklift driver is hard enough , finding a qualified experienced truck driver , completing all the tons and tons of paperwork and regulatory forms and tests etc for the truck driver is a giant pain .
Then figuring out the competitive compensation to keep the driver from jumping over to another company y that offers them a nickel more …

    Why I come on here!

At the moment there are boards sitting down with donuts, coffee, and they’re working on proposals on next years bids. Meanwhile a dreamer is going to by a used truck and figure this out while laying in bed playing on their phone in a week. But hey, I guess this is America!
