You may not, like I said part of the reason I spec them is convenience, I’ve been driving for over 3o years and like my comforts now.

I've driven autos. Both air-shift early Pete, and modern freightliner 12 speed autos. They screw up shifts too much for my liking. I mean Alison transmissions are nice, but lower mpg.

I like my auto. I don’t get as grumpy in stop and go traffic as I used to. And the Urge to Move and Creep Mode make it real nice.

I will say this unequivocally. I do not like automatic transmissions. I do not like them in my car and especially in my truck. I enjoy shifting. I hate traffic, but in the truck it's more tolerable because I am shifting. I passed up on a car when I was younger because it didn't have a manual.

That being said, I don't feel that I'm a better driver than others just because they don't enjoy shifting and prefer autos.

There’s rumor going on that Kenworth will soon announce a numbered limited edition W900L just like Peterbilt and that will be the end. Watch this space.

I guess the only hood left will be the International HDX forward axle

KW salesman my friend deals with said if the W9 is going to stay that it will need the digital dash and 2 filters at the next round of emission updates.

That's a cool dash display. Does it show transmission temp also? I'm assuming the air pressure gauges are still mechanical?

They are also inherently more complicated and expensive to fix then they quit working right, which seems to happen more often than with a basic 3 pedal manual. For the big fleet bean counters it's still probably a win overall though with the MPG gain and less opportunity for expensive damage due to bad drivers. It also helps to "democratize" big truck driving (I know, I know....blech...fooey on that!) but the reality is that there ain't enough hardcore billy-big-riggin-mother-truckin'-operators to go around who will take the time to learn how drive a truck with a manual Fuller transmission. They need more truck drivers so that means they need to make it more appealing to a broader audience by making the truck more user friendly. Imagine if everybody had to go back to learning how to use a Spicer two-stick setup and that was the only way...that would be enough scare off all the but most dedicated to the craft. Hell half the people in the world couldn't get their car to the supermarket if it was any more complicated than jamming on a skinny pedal.
