Why is it better to have the tandems slid forward when alleydocking?

It's personal preference.
I hated having a long tail and didn't stick it in front of the 13th hole back.
That was my favorite hole 13-15th drove good backed good.
Others have their own preferences.
If I had to stick it in 11 I'll probably be griping about my big tail as I oversteer -
Back when I drove OTR and slid tandems, my hole range was 8-10, but then I delivered to Procter & Gamble, who required all drivers to put the tandems to the rear for drop-off and live unload. Backing with the tandems all the way to the rear required much more space in front of the truck than they had. It was kind of miserable, but I made it work.
