    And hence folks the reason why the Dept of Transport have rather large signs posted before the decline "Trucks must use low gear".

    Yep.

    If he came in too hot the transmission will not attempt to down shift if his RPMs are too high, no matter what mode he had it in. To do so would require braking to get the RPMs where they needed to be.

    Definitely driver error. Even without brakes, if he approached at an appropriate speed the jake would have held him all the way down.

    Company is toast because driver reports brake problems and they let or tell him to continue his mountain journey..

    That goes without saying. If he documented it and told them that they were brake problems then they’re through.
