It's most likely because Texas is using the Real ID criteria now for issuing licenses. The physical address thing is a Real ID criteria. It's a giant PIA for people that move around a lot or have remote addresses that really don't have a physical location. I was between houses, living in an RV, when I had to renew my CDL. I couldn't close on the new house without a valid ID, I couldn't get a valid ID without the house. I basically just said I was living at my business physical address.
Can a UPS store box address be used to get a Tx drivers license?

Thank you all for your replies. I knew one guy that used a UPS store address and it worked a while back. It is different from a USPS PO Box. I think he showed the street address with the Box number as an apartment number. Like 555 5th St. Apt 555.
That Real ID thing is something else I'm sure he didn't think about either. For that being a Federal deal, it surprises me that every state is not doing it the same. Here in Arkansas, you can renew or get a new license, with, or without the Real ID. I've heard some other states are only issuing the Real ID licenses.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Texas is strict, even with the Escapees RV Club option.
In Florida you can get a legal address legally for a CDL through Escapees RV Club. Don't have to own or rent a home; just go in person to the Escapees RV Club in Bushnell, Florida and register your RV, van, pickup truck there.
South Dakota Escapees is also simple; maybe easier than Florida. -
MO went REAL here last year too.

If he has a Texas license already and it has a gold/yellow star on it. It is already a real id. If not and getting a re-issue the new one will have one.

Since he is not active military He may have to show proof of residence for at least a month to get Texas license. Like a copy of last months utilities bill. It is getting harder.

The USPS is really high tech in this 21st century. They can tell if 555-Main st. apt 232 is in fact an apt bldg or a UPS store. I've given my home address with a hyphen between the # and the street name and it's come back as a non-existant address ! Found out the proper address is without the hyphen !

TxDPS-Real ID Document Check App
Texas is only offering real ids to new or renewals to licenses. I don’t know what’s required for car registration or insurance in Texas. In some states you have to show a utility bill that’s hardwired to residence like water or electric for example, or title or lease agreement to residence.Chinatown Thanks this.
