I got hit with overweight. I had to pay the ticket. Didnt have $350 to just shell out. Company paid it for me had to pay it back.

 

100 bucks per point? I've been fined 50 bucks a couple of times for getting put out of service but that's a new one for me

 

The only time I remember a driver getting an overweight ticket paid for by the company was many years ago. The driver had been hauling rolls of paper that were supposed to be secured and not allowed to "walk". The driver hit a Missouri scale and he was thousands of pounds overweight on his drives and steers. The driver got the DOT to cut the seal and they got photos of the condition of the trailer. Last I heard the shipper finally paid for that ticket. Generally speaking, it is on the driver to scale after getting loaded. Carriers don't normally pay for these tickets.

 

Not the ticket...the company wants to charge him to on top of it.

 

Company policy can be almost anything. I've never worked for a company that charges drivers any fee for inspection violations.

 

Sounds like this company is from Chicago, right? He's on 1099, right? The owners/dispatchers are all foreign, right?

He got sucked in by the promises of big money... hope y'all are prepared for tax time!

Learn the lesson: all that glitter is not gold. 1099 is the sign of a shady "employer" who wants all the money from the trucks, and generally structures things like this to keep all the driver's money that they can.

Go get a regular W4 position.

 

No it is not. I can only assume that he is a 10-99 contractor .
