Bid on a Coyote load (Van) today..$500 over what they were offering. Surprisingly it was listed at a good rate already.. $1,800 for 554 miles, 16 hours on the truck. I’d have definitely taken it considering everything in the area (PNW) was picked clean.
Anyway, just figured it would be ignored and, I could really care less, lol. About 30 minutes later..(typically this broker calls me within seconds) I figured I was put on ignore. Broker calls and ask’s if I’m still interested and that he’ll pay an additional $300 on top of my bid. So a total of $2,600 @ $4.69 per mile.
Do you have access to load boards?

Wise man.
My trucks and equipment will sit, before I send them out for peanuts.Concorde Thanks this. -
I bid $5850 to take that load. Of course it was rejected...not because $5850 is too high, it's just too high when so many others will take it for less. I guess that's the point. Brokers and shippers determine what they will pay based on past activity in a lane...but they want the cheapest it went for and we want the most it went for. How do you determine where in the range you fit?
Do you use multipliers for your calculations? For example, you would normally charge $1000 for 250 miles if the pickup and delivery is FCFS and on the same day...but it's going into FL as opposed to AR. I just multiply the rate calculation by 1.3 to account for the lack of freight at the delivery location. If I have to drive through snow/ice, that's more $$. If it's a delivery on the weekend, that's more $$ too. Extra stops, extra $$.
Personally, I think O/O's should be able to gross $8800 a week. If you want my hours for the week, that's what it costs. I can provide up to 600 miles per day. My range is $110-125 per hour or $1100-1250 per day. This is per truck. Some brokers want mileage rates so I use $1.71 as the base, then add in fuel, per diem, etc.... How many variables do you calculate in the rate you give your customers?ABiceRoads and MartinFromBC Thank this. -
