Hi all- I just got my CDL A licence, I have an offer from a big carrier to train me and drive for them but I am looking for local routes only. I found small Amazon contracting company that can hire me but they cannot insure me because I have no experience. I d rather go with them to stay local, am I going to be personally liable for anything if I get into an accident? Any risks I should be aware of? Is this common to not put new driver in insurance, what would happen if I get into an accident? I am in Texas. Thank you!

How can they hire you with no insurance? Either they insure you, or you insure yourself. Unless you think you can drive a commercial vehicle with no insurance.

Out of curiosity, what is the name of that contractor?

What they are saying is you have to buy your own insurance.

Either take option 1 or keep looking. Maybe consider paying for school yourself.

Where is your location; city/town in Texas?
    Do you have endorsements?
Can you drive a stick shift?

Amazon or the contractor won't hire you because their insurance won't cover you.

I've never heard of such an offer. Are you going to provide $750K worth of insurance for the truck? In your first hour of driving a CDL truck you will see that it's a miracle every truck isn't involved in a wreck with the reckless/agressive 4-wheelers daily. I wouldn't even think of driving a CDL truck with no insurance.

Any company that cannot insure a driver that they employ is disaster waiting to happen. Walk away, walk away very quickly.

The carrier must post his insurance coverage [old Form E] with the DOT to remain in service.

That insurance does/will say who is approved.

No company will/should use any driver not approved and no one should be able to self insure against the DOT number.

Time to change lures and troll elsewhere.
