Hi all.
So I had some warranty emissions work done recently on my 2021 Peterbilt 567 with the Cummins 500 efficiency X-15. I inquired at Cummins NW about going full synthetic engine oil and they basically evaded the question with the "we can only recommend the oils stated in the owners manual". Ok, fair enough. But what is the opinions or experiences of the members here on going full synthetic in this engine at 250k miles?
Will synthetics solve or cause more emissions issues? How about other sensors etc.?
Thanks for any help on this as I need to service the engine soon.
Cummins X-15 500hp, full synthetic?

First question would be how often do you change ur oil? Full synthetic oil isn't cheap. Unless u are doing the extended drains I wouldn't run it. Maybe go with a semi synthetic.
-
I only run full syn, regardless of age.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
I always ran T6 and changed it at 20K miles…..
But I wasn’t paying $100 a gallon for it.Oxbow Thanks this. -
A hundred a gallon.
I want to be your oil salesman.
Heck I'll only charge you half that.
Did you maybe mean a hundred a pail? -
On my 2014 ISX 15(2016 recon long block) I use a local oil distributor house synthetic blend that cost me $12.00 a gallon, was paying about $8.00 a few years ago but everything has gone up. I change it about 10-12,000 miles. This last oil changed I went 13,000. Several on here swear with those long interval changes. But I have a peace of mind doing the way I service mine.
spsauerland, Oxbow, D.Tibbitt and 3 others Thank this. -

I actually do mine by time, not miles, some of my trucks don't run a lot of miles, but pile up the hours.
Six weeks works.Isafarmboy, Oxbow and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
I’ve never gone by hours, just curious, at how many hours do you service yours and what does that equal to in mile ? I run locally and I don’t let the truck idle much unless it’s extremely hot and/or I’m trying to cool off before I go back to securing my load etc……..
