I don't see any oil drops on the ground. I was always told to run new engine hard and pull some big hills at full throttle to help seat the rings. Don't long idle the engine like all night if possible. It's something like 30,000 miles to break in new S60 if I remember correctly.
If you don't have add much oil it's probably fine. It will burn oil till the new rings get seated. That's why long idling all night not so good. It will make mess oil blowby plus you had keep adding more oil if you idle it new or rebuilt.
Let engine warm up a little before giving it full throttle in the morning or if the engine cooled down. 3 minutes minimum to cool down and let turbo slow down before turning key off.bzinger Thanks this. -
That does look like a lot of blowby but personally I would run it hard and not worry unless oil pressure or consumption is totally out of whack.

Series 60 always seemed to have a lot of blowby, but if it's really excessive the most likely cause is someone didn't offset the ring gaps on the pistons.

Did you upload it to YouTube? Do that then hit share link button on YouTube. Then click on the film reel thing on reply options here and copy link. It does look like a lot.
How'd you break it in?Last edited: Oct 4, 2022

I got about 3,000 miles on my rebuild series 60. It’s got blow-by too. Seems excessive to me but I’m no expert. Just add that to the other issues I have.
baha and ProfessionalNoticer Thank this. -
If it’s not using a whole lot of oil, I would run it.
Roger McG, ProfessionalNoticer and Hammer166 Thank this. -
What brand piston and liners and rings did you guys end up putting in the motor??

It’s a Detroit it’s gonna. If it’s excessive pull the breather tubes and look for the dust trail. Look for sand blasting on turbo compressor wheel. 10k is perfect mileage to be dusted over sloppy work. Whether it’s a loose hose clamp, torn boot or a rubbed place you got to find it before repairing it again. I have seen a bad turbo bearing cause low oil pressure and pressure in crank case. Could be anything listed above, being wrong cost money
Hammer166 Thanks this.
