Hi guy's I'm new on here but i really need help on this topic. I'm 21 years old and am looking to get a sprinter van and become an owner operator with my own authority. I was convicted of serious crimes at 19, I was young and still am but this is has really made my life difficult as I was convicted of
1. Strong armed robbery
2. Common law robbery
those are my main offenses. I'm currently on probation until 2025. I just want to build an peaceful life now and have had to put down a lot of my ambitions in different career's because I know I will not be given a chance in them because of my felonies. I just want know if I have an opportunity in this industry with the steps I'm trying to take in becoming a owner operator with my own authority.
Can I be an owner op with my own authority If I have felonies?

Yes, assuming your going to run interstate and the terms of your probation allows it.
Siinman, Opendeckin, tscottme and 2 others Thank this. -
Do you have freight to load into that sprinter van?
austinmike Thanks this. -
Will your probation officer let you leave the state with a trucking job?
MartinFromBC and RefMata Thank this. -
Which state do you live in? What's the nearest town/city?
RefMata Thanks this. -
Chinatown Thanks this.
-
Do you have a CDL yet?
You will also need a DOT physical and pass a drug test.
Even non-cdl drivers sometimes are required to have a DOT physical and drug test.tscottme Thanks this. -
Which town/city are you in or near?
-
I would suggest you look very, very hard before you jump into the "sprinter van" business. It's a dog eat dog world with very few success stories.
@Chinatown will be able to direct you to companies that will hire you for CDL jobs. Pay your dues for a year or two, keep your nose clean, and you'll have many options from there.
Good luck.tscottme, LoneRanger, MartinFromBC and 2 others Thank this. -
As others have stated the demand for sprinter vans is super low. I imagine a rather large fleet of other trucking capabilities would be needed to make the use of sprinter van practical.
tscottme Thanks this.
