The advocacy trucking enforcement group CVSA recommendations for autonomous vehicle inspections is recommending that they be exempt from en route scales and weigh stations. The only time DOT or police officers should mess with them is if they aren’t acting right. Human drivers of course need the scales and the enforcement blitzes but not robots. Human drivers no longer required to do pre and post trips but rather certified personnel that don’t need to be drivers.

I think it is a double standard that human drivers can’t have the same inspection regs now. Drivers absolutely should not put up with that garbage. After all, a human driver has to get out after about 25 to 50 miles to inspect and make sure the cargo is secured. A robot truck I guess is exempt. Dumb.

What percentage of autonomous trucks make up the class 8 fleet?
Like .0000001%. Maybe less.
this is not a forever regulation, it is "guidance" And therefore subject to change at a moments notice.
this is nothing more than the CVSA trying to stay relevant, and have an excuse to have a conference somewhere, on someone elses expense account, sitting around coming up with useless policy they know won't be implemented for years, if ever.
A public relations stunt.Eric4Yeshua1337 Thanks this. -
When the DOT guy pulls you over for an inspection, just tell them you "identify" as an autonomous truck and are exempt.
