Trucking jobs evaporate as shortage worsens
Largest single month decrease in drivers on the road or currently employed since 2009. Some trucking companies are actually having to cut their customers and simply tell them we can’t run all your loads. Also in the article it describes that many small and midsize companies are closing shop or very close to closing shop. They’ve stopped even trying to get new trucks at many places. The storm is just starting to kick up. It’s gonna be a long winter!
The shortage worsens, small / mid size co folding

Story doesn't sound right to me. How does not being able to put more trucks on the road force you out of business? Imagine a landlord saying "I can't get by with just 100 apartments. If I can't get another 30-50 apartments I'll go bust." Fuel costs are up, more trucks burn more fuel. If each truck isn't making a profit hiw does adding trucks move a company from losing money to making mone? I'm no business expert, that's why I've always been a company driver.

Diesel went up $0.40/L in the last 5 days here. That's roughly a 30-35% increase.

It's a weird Market between contract and spot market rates now .
My spot market friends in the reefer biz are getting pinched while the carrier im leased to holds steady and even raising rates and aggressively goes after detention and tonu,s .
I think this has to do with high equipment prices and shippers nervous about truck availability when poo hits the fan ...I expect to see things soften then but it will never go back to pre covid levels .FerrissWheel, GYPSY65, Suspect Zero and 8 others Thank this. -
It doesnt sound right, because its a ponzi scheme, they HAVE to grow because they financed everything in 2021, and if they didnt take full depreciation theyd have been out of buisness, so if they cant grow, they cant cover their taxable liabilites4wayflashers, FerrissWheel, D.Tibbitt and 5 others Thank this. -
Jus sayin what they sayin.
Look, you run wild, you get what you get.
You love the adventure and the odd high dolla load. And I love you for it.
But the business is a business.
It's hard to make people on both sides understand each other.
One side is business, one side is adventure.FerrissWheel, JolliRoger, tscottme and 3 others Thank this.
