For those of you actually driving for Swift (not ex-drivers), particularly flatbedders, what have your miles been the last couple of months?
I ask because Swift might be my only option to get back on the road. I've got a orientation date of 2/15, but subject to change based on availability of trainer (yeah, I have to go with one, to show I know my ##### from my elbow)
Thanks.

to get BACK on the road? where do you live, michigan?
you called all the other newb companies and they dont want you? Werner?
i just think its odd that swift is the only one who wants you, because they told me whenever i called...oh, we're only looking for students, you have experience....
theres something WRONG with that. -
I can't afford to sit here at home too much longer, so if they will take me, I'll take them. I've been out there before, so I'm not going into this starry eyed, if I go.
I also, just yesterday, found out my best friend has a neighbor that drives flats for them. He's home this weekend, so my buddy brought him this AM to our usual breakfast meet. He's been with them 4 years (been driving 18 years, total), this coming April. And he has no major complaints. His primary issue is home time, but he said he doesn't get hung out on a weekend very often. He usually is under a longer distance load. Yes, he admits the company can be a real cluster f***, but he thinks that's because they are so big, lots of right hands don't know what all the left hands are doing. He also said if I wanted names of other drivers you are at least content with Swift, both van & flat, he'd get them for me. Said that he's had steady loads almost every week this past year, when other drivers are saying they are sitting a lot.
I figure I don't have much to lose with Swift. If it's Ok, I can do anywhere from 6 months till whenever, as long as I get my time in. Then if I find a company I think I'd like better, I can get on there, as I'll have the time required.
If it is totally bad, I can still stick it out 3 to 6 months, and have enough time to go elsewhere. -
We're not flat bed, we're reefer. You want our miles? We run between 5-6 K a week
Lonesome Thanks this. -
Why do Nanas always come through?
Actually, to keep our current budget, and at the .27 cpm that Swift said I would start at, after training, 1500 - 1600 miles a week would work. Obviously I'd like more, for the income, but also because that few miles would mean I'm sitting a lot.
Thanks Texas Nana -
We're on a dedicate fleet so that is why we're getting the miles. I know that on OTR we didn't get that many on a regular basis. I don't know if it's true but I've heard that flatbed is hurting for miles.
I'll try to get ahold of some of my flatbed friends and find out for you. Frankly my advice in this economy is van/reefer....and try to get on with a dedicated grocery fleet and pull reefers. People eat.......they buy at wal-mart........get on a wal-mart dedicate fleet and pull food. -
I'm van OTR. I was really hopping through mid-January, then it slumped, but that's to be expected.
