IDK ,Trevor the b train in the picture doesn't have a draw bar.

A dolly has a shape that represents an ''A'' of sorts. It hooks to a pintle hook on the lead trailer at the front, and duals at the back ,some are even tandem duals.
    It's a separate piece also.
Another name for it is converter.
But you may be right and Cam has his terminology confused.
If so then that would change all the answers on both threads I think.

there is no dolly, that is a 'road train' thing, B-Doubles have a special built A trailer with a turntable on the rear, over the rear axles to allow a 2nd trailer to be connected

I think Cam is right, as I said we were led to believe here in Australia, that b-Trains (Aussie B-Doubles) were a Canadian idea. We have had B-Doubles here in Australia since the mid 80's and are the most popular truck combination here

B trains are a Canadian invention. They are used in some of the border states of the US as well. Often called Michigan trains. The B train has the fifth wheel mounted onto the rear of the lead trailer. It’s more stable than a traditional converter dolly A train set up. As it has one less pivot point.

A trains came first. The B came around the mid to late 60’s. The C came around the same time. In a timeline they came in that order A, B, C.

I can only surmise that they were just called trains before the B train came on the market.

There seems to be a disconnect in terminology here

An A train has a dolly and a lead trailer and a pup in CAN.
Not an A and B trailer.
What you are calling B-doubles have been around in CAN since the 60's that I know of but I don't know when the first one was.
And then there are ''super B'' trains also here.
I think that would more resemble the picture.

They aren’t talking about a California setup. That’s an all together different animal.

I wasn’t aware that the allowed B trains in California. It’s been a number of years since I’ve been there. But I don’t recall a True B train.

yes there is a disconnect in terminology. I am Australian

we have road trains, multi trailers all connected by an A-frame dolly, I know full well what these are, we call them 'road trains' you might call them something different. In my State of Victoria, Australia, we have "A-Doubles", which is the Governments way of not letting 'greenies' know that we are running 'road trains'. If you Google Aussie Road Trains you will get a picture, if you Google Victorian A-Doubles you will get basically the same picture

    A Victoria 'A-Double'

Look at the 2 pictures I posted earlier and you will see our B-Doubles (Canadian B-Trains), they are very different to a 'road train' (A-Double in Victoria)

This is what the lead trainer, or A Trailer of a B-Double looks like
