Don't get excited if fuel goes down, it'll be another excuse for Mr. BROKER to drop the rate some more on you.

I really hate to say this, but I looked at your posted threads since you joined the forum, and it seems you got into this game right around the wrong time, with the wrong truck and equipment. The warranty you purchased saved you from complete business failure after the engine grenaded, but in those two months of repair, the rates have - as @Kenworth6969 put it - gone into the toilet.

Now is the time to act rationally and sensibly. I hope you've had enough time to secure some trusted relationships, and are not hoping to survive on spot market rates. As contract rates are challenged, even heavy haul megas will pillage the already stripped spot market.

Those that have been operating a while know that it's either time to park it for the winter and wait, or rely on solid relationships forged over time to survive. I have my feet in both camps over the next few months. I don't like to just sit and chew on savings, plus I'll get bored at home.

I really hope things work out for you, but if you know it's time to get back in the repaired truck and go out and rake up some cash - you'll become part of the race to the bottom that will become part of the problem, and you'll be angry, dejected, and desperate - every mile you drive.

Sincerely, I hate to see the pain right now, and wish you the best. Blair.

I deadheaded back from Phoenix to SoCal yesterday, I had a good paying load out that covered my run home. I hit the boards every ten minutes to try and luck out, to no avail. Dumb arses were jumping on buck a mile loads left and right. Yeah, the run home is $500 or less in fuel. The loads are paying $450ish. However, you wait an hour or more to get loaded. You wait and hour or more to get unloaded. Plus liability on the load, wear and tear, etc, Nope. I saw no less than a dozen flats, steps, or RGN’s running back west empty. That’s the way to beat them. When the kooks will lick the bottom of the jar, they’ll (brokers/shippers) keep on playing this game.

Your assessment is spot on, and I really appreciate the words of knowledge/encouragement & dose of reality.

I enjoyed the spot market while it was good but I believe it’s time to restructure. I do have some local work, think ima stay around the house and build on that.

I was doing better when fuel was higher. And I think LA is bad in general for outbound loads.

Texas lowboy spot freight has always been hit or miss. Especially heading east. And especially Dallas. This is nothing new. Only spot in Texas for a lowboy is Houston and that’s never a sure thing.
