I could care less if they get mad. It’s my CDL not theirs. I’m not shy about letting them know. I told them to their face over and over “I do not answer the phone when I’m driving.”. Whatever it is can wait. Handling a cell phone while driving a commercial vehicle is among the worst violations you can engage in. And I’m certainly not willing to violate that so some dispatcher doesn’t get butt hurt.

Well if it's an important message about a family member I'm keeping the phone close, because then I need to know what is going on and get home possibly quickly.....

I don't think the accidents, traffic slow downs, back ups created by cell phone usage and texting get accounted for correctly.

I have seen many accidents caused by some yahoo on thier phone cause serious issues with traffic flow that resulted in each but the culprit makes it out without hitting or getting hit and just drives off. Leaving everyone else wondering why that goof just crossed traffic lanes, dropped over 30 mph hit his brakes hard when he realized he was in the wrong lane then swerved back and all the traffic around him, behind him is at a standstill as he takes the one escape path out of the mess. Then as usual just keeps on Going!

Can't count the amount of times I watched traffic slow for no reason other than that car or truck ahead swerving ever so close and many times over the traffic lane scarring everyone around into braking just because they wanted to send a text and were unable to hold thier lane.

My favorite however was the car driver in the turnpike tunnel in PA that slowed to about 10mph trying to figure out why she had no reception! Her car was totaled!

Keep the phone in your personal transport and just plug in a strict MP3 player with 12 hours worth of podcasts(those 30 min long podcasters need to step their thing up and quit being lazy punks) or a 1 hour clean loop of 12 different songs you like.

Entertainment for hours and if people are angry you didn't text or call them back, send a group rant-text about "why is it that when everyone calls/texts it's when I'm working. But when I'm free it's crickets??? Are your brains made of junk cow p---"

I mean home everyday, high pay day cab job? Got to find a way to adapt to the safety/insurance Nazism.

I think this is the reason for the onset of drivers hanging sunshades, towels, paper , etc in the drivers side window. It’s not blocking the sun or headlight glare but to keep from being spotted having the phone to their ear

Its NOT the phone that triggers the events.. is the driver who is on the phone has his head up his arse and drives out of the lane, has to hit the brakes too hard, starts following to close etc etc etc.. the clip was for the lane deviation or following distance.. Those are all "coachable" and or trainable as EVERYONE will get events.... when they have a phone in their hand / up to their heads... they have no defense and they can be warned, suspended and or fired depending on the company's rules.

They can get hauled in over that too.. Camera obstruction is not allowed.. a few sun visors here and there, a hat or other thing "innocently" left in the cameras view is just a convo.. trying to disable the cameras is something that can get them fired
