I have a question for my fellow open deck drivers....would you tarp this piece? Or just secure the shrinkwrap?

If by secure the shrunk wrap you mean cut it off, sure. Only way the piece is staying wrapped is under a tarp. I’m sure you had the customer sign the bills and initial the section that says no tarp. Right?

i will tarp anything that they are willing to pay to get tarped... a job like that is going to be very high price...as a company driver.. i would cut the shrink wrap and roll .. looks like a car/truck lift? i might just wrap the motors and electronics up..

    JoeyJunk Thanks this.

It's a 3rd party warehouse for Boeing, so they would only say that it came in on a conestoga and don't know if it needs tarped or not and neither the B/L or the load info says must be tarped. (It's going to McConnell AFB so it's some sort of lift for airplane equipment)...it has a pintle ring pull bar on the one end, so it must be pulled by a flight line tractor of some sort. I called my dispatcher, he didn't know, so he is messaging the person who set this load up...and they may need to call Boeing on this.

I don't see anything electrical or hydraulic on it...has a hand crank at the end connected to a transmission at each post via a driveshaft and those transmissions have a geared shaft going up the posts that lift a sling

My brother retired from USAF. The last place he was stationed was McConnell. He still lives in the area.

Not a chance....the USAF won't care and it will likely be used/stored outside anyway.

After almost 2 hours of waiting, I messaged my dispatcher...he apologized for not getting back to me, he is covering his board and someone elses as well. He said with Boeing, always tarp...so I had to then start tarping. I decided to take my center tarp off the front deck's pallets and use it since it's lighter than an end tarp...but, after I got it up on top of the #### thing, it was short...but, I improvised and wrapped it like a Christmas present...once I got done, it was then rush hour in Phoenix...but it's done and doesn't look any worse than some of the tarps I see on a certain mega's flatbed loads (Western Express), so I guess I'm not -that- bad at tarping.

For some reason I was thinking that McConnell AFB was in Topeka (it's on Topeka St, I misread it because of the way SPD's Peoplenet displays stuff). So I got a 2 Wichita stops, a Park City and then St. Louis, which will make it easier to get unloaded earlier than I originally planned.

Almost looks like a professional did it. Mrs. Snackbar said if this trucking gig doesn't work out I could wrap gifts for a living. :laughing-guffaw:
