I think you’re in somewhat a similar position financially to me.
A review of last week saw a lot of profit lost to fuel cost, and though I may operate at slightly better income than you, 1 oversize load and 2 legal loads over 7 days brought $9,700 to the truck - 25% roughly to fuel.
2 years ago fuel was 10-15% of gross to me.
The last time I went through the west Texas area, it was obvious that consumables and accommodations were grossly inflated.
And as others said - the wear and tear is accelerated.
Choose carefully. If you can - park and wait.
To sell out or not to sell out.

I’ve been thinking the same. No need for remorse now. I had my chance and decided to stick with it. Recently hourly local jobs have been increasing wages. The thought of punching a clock and leaving it behind looks good. $28-$30 hr. if I could get 50 hrs in 5 days, along with paid health benefits. Been doing a lot of work on my Truck. It’s not costly. But the physical demand takes a toll. Also tired of always doing the little bs involved with compliance. It’s like working 3 jobs sometimes.

If trucking is a pre-cursor to the overall economy, then it’ll be a hard winter for most.
A husband shot his wife, himself, and killed all 6 children last week in Broken Arrow, OK - last week, bankruptcy a couple of years ago , debts mainly student loans.
The more threads here about the overall picture, things aren’t looking great.fordconvert, Siinman, Ruthless and 2 others Thank this. -
