what happens to unbooked freight

The product get's thrown away and the broker never gets any more freight from them.

 

It all gets moved especially in today's market.

If it takes too long and the customer really needs it gone, then the broker will start bumping the posted rate up until someone books it.

 

So shipper has a load of ping pong balls. Pays next to nothing.
Broker posts the load, shipper says I won't pay more than $1.00 mile to move it.
Shipper calls the broker 2 weeks later all kinds of pixxed off, how come my ping pong balls are still on my dock?
Broker says either pay more or they are going to grow roots on your dock.
Your choice.
Broker couldn't care less.

 

It sits there waiting for me to decide what rate to ship it.

Some of it barely matters.

I've told the story before - but when my wife and I drove to IN to retrieve the truck that a driver had - loaded - with hazmat super sacks of 'whatever it was' - that had been in a secure storage yard for 6 weeks . . . and I finally delivered it south of Chicago - the receiver could not have cared. A bit.

Oh - this stuff? We don't even need or want it here.

The driver had pulled into a rest area and put a gun to his head, and pulled the trigger. Left a wife and a 12 year old daughter behind.

The lack of 'GAF' from the agent and the receiver/shipper etc, bothered me as much as looking at pictures that his daughter had drawn her daddy, pinned to the headliner in the cab.

When I saw the freight bill and what it paid - well, it paid exactly what I thought it would.

That freight could have sat at the shipper for 3 months.

That #### still bothers me to this day.

 

It goes to load heaven.

 

No such thing. EVERY load is a hot load….gotta git it there ASAP in spite of snow or sleet or locusts…the entire economy is teetering on the brink of failure over every load…

…at least it did when I was a company driver….

 

There are a lot of loads that can be picked up anytime one week and deliver anytime the next week.
