I liked seeing the videos about the Battery Vehicles that were parked in "shelters" in the FLOODING from Ian, going up in FLAMES. Just another Comforting Video of the Dangers in New Technologies.

NO GAS POWERED VEHICLES suddenly CAUGHT FIRE from being submerged in WATER, but no, gas is ENVIRONMENTAL death and electrical is the future (environmental DEATH).

 

Yep but it won't be in the ones who consume most of the earth minerals and resources, or pollute the most.

 

Yes every time I hear the world is overpopulated, I wonder if the person telling me will be the ultimate activist and lead by example by departing first.

There was an electric truck at jx in in Indy. Nobody is buying it. Folks think that electric is so great are usually not the ones pulling out their checkbook to buy one,

 

There is one huge difference between the adoption of new technologies in the past vs what is happening now.

Example 1. As of 1930, all RR locomotives in the country were steam powered. By 1940 the technology had been advanced enough to replace half of them. By 1950 almost all of them. BUT. It was all paid for by the railroads because of the enormous savings involved. Market driven
Example 2. The last propeller driven airliner was the DC-7 built in 1953. By 1960 jets (DC-8, Boeing 707) had replaced half of propeller driven long distance airliners. All paid for by the airlines because of the cost advantages. Market driven.

EV adoption is totally different. Solar and wind the same.
All are being heavily promoted and paid for by government subsidy and incentives. NOT by voluntary marketplace demands.

Left on their own economics, no electric vehicles, wind or solar would make it in the real marketplace.

 

We were all told in jr high (1985 I think) via a government movie that there would be no more oil by 1998, it played at all schools in the state and part of the Science class. The teacher used to tell us ever week how we were running out of oil. I was already a motor head by then and I remember it well.

 

Where did the money come for the development of both diesel powered trains and jet engines?

The US Government funded the building of the plants for ship engines during WWII which transitioned to locomotives in the post war period.

Without government R&D money jet engines wouldn't have been realized for at least another decade. Going back a half century, it was government money that allowed powered flight. The Wright brothers flew without a cent of government money but their initial flight was soon outstripped by various European governments that threw money at developing effective flight. America was 'first in flight' but was a decade behind by 1914.

Let's not forget it was the government which paid to build a nation wide electric grid, and phone network, and cell towers. There is no way any private company could build out the infrastructure needed without government backing. Just look at what happened to Google Fiber.

The government also built the roads that facilitated the automotive industry, not to mention it's massive spending on vehicles.

Pretending that government was not integrally involved in the economy from the first colonies until today is disingenuous.

 

Back then those advancements were considered improvements. I don't really see a huge advancement in our world by switching to electric vehicles. I actually see it as, at best, a lateral move.
