I suggested she drive to my house near Syracuse (and the old Weedsport terminal) and park it here so it didn't end up buried. Or put it in a parking garage and just deal with the bill when she picked it up. She decided to leave it at my house. Glad she did because I have green grass.MIT, dwells40 and Still undecided Thank this. -
Nashville Thanks this.

4 wheelers can at least turn around. Always an adventure for me going to Trenton.....
Worst time was coming in the back way (GPS) and Jackson road being closed. Continued straight down Hamilton Trenton Rd at about 2am into the residential neighborhood. One of my most fun rookie adventures.

Saw a whole caravan of brand spankin' new 2023 trucks coming down 71 north of Lebanon, OH today presumably heading to Trenton. I looked down at my dash at the 650k and the check engine light on my 2016 plastic Peterbilt and felt a little bit envious.
Nashville, MIT, JOHNQPUBLIC and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've seen more new trucks being delivered too. I'm not jealous though, the 2019 Cascadia I'm in has 400,000 miles on it but doesn't nag at me when I go by exit lanes or road construction. It doesn't panic brake when going under an overpass either, and will idle until it's turned off.
On another note, the Flying J in South Beloit IL only had 3 working pumps this morning and had been like that since the day before. They weren't sure when it was going to be fixed either.MIT Thanks this. -
Our new trucks are really nice Peterbilt 567s, some with Cummins instead of Paccars like mine, and they also have refrigerators and APUs in them but they also have super singles and a lot of the annoying safety toys so I hope I get to keep my beat up 589 for awhile. -
After spending Tuesday night in Indiana at 17 degrees in a bag suggested and rated for 25, by my "trainer" he can kiss my keister. My army days are long behind me. When combined with the totality of everything else i witnessed and experienced I will keep it to myself as i don't have the experience for an unbiased "review" in the industry or with other freight companies as many of you have and would undoubtedly come across as a whiner. My only objective is to point out the minimum, in my opinion, to be a safe driver from a man who has wore many hats in life, ALWAYS fostered a culture of safety and came into this with an open mind and strong work ethic. This is not an attempt to drag Millis through the mud! I have much adoration for the otr drivers i met over the last week and the company itself. Those Heartland terminals are fantastic but i'm afraid they might come at a price? Dark clouds on the horizon?
Note to Millis leadership reading this. You want safe drivers? Keep them comfortable. They deserve it! That sad excuse for a drivers seat put my butt to sleep long before my bladder gave up. Those bunk mattresses, are you kidding me? Use your bulk purchasing power and purchase real innerspring, pillow tops for next to nothing when compared to the dangers of sleep deficits accurately depicted in training. I've lived it.
Trainers truck governed at 70 and I certainly noticed the advantages that 4mph made. However i don't agree, probably because i don't understand/lack experience, penalizing new drivers at 66 mph. You trusted me at 70 mph in the trainers truck with 20 whole hours of backing up on the range and less than a real workday driving in the real world. If anything utilize the nanny tracking metrics and adjust offenders speed accordingly?
It was an easy decision for me to decide to pay the $2500 etf as opposed to cutting my teeth and paying my dues earning $9.00 per hour.
(.44 cpm)*(500 miles per day)/24 hours. I learned that you are never really off duty in the trucking industry. There are way too many variables beyond a drivers control that will force you to adjust your sleep and home life chasing tight delivery windows.
My heartfelt thanks to all of you drivers for getting me and my family all of our stuff we "need" on time!
I'm off to my next big adventure, hourly $$$ local driving job getting experience operating on roads i know and tolls & weigh stations i had better not miss!
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you driving or at home relaxing!Still undecided, MIT and dwells40 Thank this. -
Still undecided Thanks this.
