I found information according to which
In 2019, the California Legislature enacted Assembly Bill 5 (AB-5), which effectively precludes motor carriers from using owner-operators in California unless they classify them as employees

So I can't work on my hotshot truck if I'm a cdl driver?

I believe if you have your own authority it will not be a problem.

Ya the ab5 law states that owner operators attached to a company cannot haul in their states. I’m wondering how that is working out for them,
