As long as my truck isn’t in eyesight. The truck is the game changer. I am the guy that gets told that by shippers and receivers that they remember my truck. My truck stands out like my motorcycle does.

If I helped out another driver that’s with my company, when that driver thanks me, I ask him not to tell anyone. Why?

If you are muscled up, they say you took steroids. If you drive a largecar, they say that you are overcompensating. If you are good at what you do, they hope you to fail. If you roll pass them, they hope that they see you in a ditch. If you like who you are, they say you are arrogant. If you are all of the above…?

Haters. Everything you do positive will be turned negative.

    Okay, Yes. Sometimes "Conditions Presented".

Plausible results in our litigious and whiny societal "me first" structure:

Having been questioned by some late arriving law enforcement beings, I responded:
"Considering the undercarriage was ablaze, I could have rescued either the skinny blond woman with the itsy bitsy bikini passed out in front left seat and bleeding from ears OR the very young Child in the right backseat baby chair buckled to vehicle seat.
Since the vehicle was a rag top I chose the Baby. Before being able to return to vehicle, it had become entombed with flames. Any more Questions?"

So after I was released from Jail (for rescuing a child, not both Humans, from a burning vehicle), I was presented with a lawsuit from the appreciative Relatives/Friends of the Woman.
    ---------------------

Had I not done anything and driven away, I would have been curious, for a week or 2, about what might have been had I stepped in.

You can have a thousand different scenarios about the negative effects of stopping and helping someone. It can go on and on. Each person has to do whats right for them. So in your scenario, let the child die and don't worry about a lawsuit?

There needs to be some protection for people trying to do the right thing. Sure no one wants see their own blood burn or anyone elses, but if someone stopped to help and there was trailing injury from that or not, then the law should protect the do gooder. The failing is lawyers argue negligence from the do gooder's side, not appreciation from the surviver.

I drove past and watched a guy having a heat attack on a motor bike at an intersection. I just called the ambulance and keep going. It doesn't keep me awake at night, nor do I regret anything. I did my part with my legal skill set. Sure he probably has a wife, children perhaps, sisters and brothers, and maybe a nice guy as well, but could have had donuts for breakfast the past 30 years as well. If we all value life so much are we all as fit and in shape as we can be? Do we avoid every life reducing scenario?

My insurance broker tells me its all fine and dandy till you loose your house and then everything else. That is from being underinsured, but I also relate it to the world that has been created and someone wants me to pay for their life. Yes I am contributing to that messed up world, but I'd rather be generous to someone in need that is not so desperate and have greedy scabby lawyers culturing ideas.

I think I know now who the parents of all these scared generations behind us are. Right, stay in the safety of the rig or the boogie man might get you.

Someday it could be your wife or daughter in the burning or overturned car and no trucker or motorist will stop. Might see his truck. Or else they will figure she deserved it for not staying home.

What in the world have we become…

i witnessed a pretty bad accident last year----which is what inspired me to buy the Garmin 67W dash cam. See this other post:
Which Camera is best for forward facing dash cam?

Yes, i stopped. i was in my personal truck so it was easy to get out of the way. If i was in tractor, then i would have found the nearest safe place to park.

There was a child involved, but no-one was seriously, if at all hurt. The two suv's however ended up like billard balls clear on the other side of the intersection. Both undriveable afterwards.

So, i basically got two calls----one from the insurance company and one from one of the car's lawyers. And that's been it.

i understand about the sue-happy atmosphere we, unfortunately, have nowadays. i wonder if there's a way to get the police report afterwards and then submit dashcam footage to envolved parties anonymously?

i'm still stopping irregardless. If there are human lives involved. We'll worry about the money and other stuff later. And there are ways around that too........
