For years I've seen people get totally smashed on alcohol, yet their BAC is back to 0.0 in the morning when they start driving. Totally hungover and a danger to everyone out there on the roads. And that is ok, legally.
But someone who smokes some pot after work and is back to being totally sober the next day and safe to drive, shouldn't be allowed to drive a truck?
I've never driven a truck after either of these examples but have driven cars countless times in years past. And I'd much rather have to pot smoker next to me on the interstate.
As far as the other drugs, they need to continue to test for them. But Hair tests have proven to be unreliable. A lot of false positives for people with certain types of hair. And if the ATA is lobbying for something, I'm pretty sure it isn't going to help any of us.

How can we test for ######## watching Netflix?

That's something I could get behind.

I don’t believe the OP stated a “contention” with respect to the poll question.

But since it’s being implied, I’ll clarify. Originally I voted yes, but I’m changing my opinion to no given a couple comments that were made causing me to do some further research. It appears that the test is not reliable enough to use it to for such purpose.

But, yes I’d prefer that drug abusers are not driving 80K vehicles, nor do I want drunks doing it. Personally I could care less if one drinks or smokes, not my concern. But I believe there are many doing it while operating, and I’d like to see them off the road.

You can't regulate "stupid", I'd rather see penalties increased for those who are caught breaking the laws that already exist versus more control on legal drivers.

A 45 second video makes you think there's a lot of drivers on drugs on the road?

I have no idea if that guy was tired, stupid, or stoned. But there are enough occurrences of stuff like that, that makes one wonder.

Can we agree that raising the bar of what is acceptable ability to operate a big truck is quite low as it is, and while not all the guys driving 3 and a half feet from your DOT bumper are high, some probably are.

It's simple stupidity. We won't agree on what raising the bar looks like I'm sure. Any yoyo can drive a truck anymore, it doesn't take any actual driving skill when you have all the nanny systems there are in new trucks. Automatic braking, lane keeping, advanced cruise control all that #### needs to be taken away. Require the person behind the wheel to actually be driving.
