Maybe 20 years ago or so we had a driver making a food delivery to a restaurant on a military base I think maybe Dover in Delaware? Anyway, the driver had a company helper with him, great guy. Never called in, hard worker, friendly guy. During the check-in at the guard shack they found out this helper was an illegal alien from the Philippines. They kept him at the guard shack at rifle point while the driver went and made the delivery and picked him up on the way back. Our company was completely floored because we did all our standard due diligence. We ended up letting him go and wished him well.

That reminds me of a funny story. We were working at a facility that was a government contractor. Part of their contract with the government is they have to control who they let in to the facility. They will usually let legal foreigners in from other friendly countries, as long as their paperwork is in order. We were dismantling a big autoclave and the factory tech they sent to show us the proper procedure to prepare for shipment was a Brazilian national. They finally agreed to let him in but he was my responsibility. I was to escort him everywhere, and only let him into the area we were working. That rascal knew the rule (he was supposed to stay within sight of me), but he would slip off to go to the bathroom, smoke, or whatever without telling anybody. I was busy doing other work so he was hard to keep up with. Luckily, he never did get caught in a area he wasn't supposed to be in or without me escorting him, but it he did both of us would have likely gotten banned from the facility.

Since then I've had other foreigners I've had to bring into the same facility (seems most machine factory techs are from overseas these days), and I refused to be responsible for them. They can get one of their employees to escort them.

Don't bring drugs or guns on base.

I had a co worker in concrete pumping try to bring in a bag of pot, hidden in a compartment. They found it.....

I hope the loads are paying well, like really well. Like you are getting paid enough to be ok with the broker making $1500 plus off the top of the load and knowing it well, plus dealing with some of the bases are idiotic, and there truck lanes are tight and get crammed up. I definitely support the US milatary, I will not however do a military load unless I’m 100% happy with the rate to the truck and it reflects sitting at a gate for possibly 1 hour to check in, and having some MP rummage thru my truck.
