BAD NEWS: Trucking, as a profession, is NOT a good place for the impatient.

To recap: it's December.

That means, "the holiday season is almost upon us".

Thus, it can easily take longer than average to find you a mentor/trainer.

A good one does not just pop in and out of a microwave.

November and December are probably the worst 2 months of the year to start a trucking job--for that reason.

A really good truck driver is always cool under fire.

Until proven otherwise--I think you're fretting over absolutely NOTHING.

If you have been offered a job by Swift Transportation--let me offer to you my personal, "Congratulations!"

Given the current state of the economy and also the trucking industry--I'd say that's really as good a place as any (or maybe even better) to get started.

In addition to the dozens of terminals and dropyards you'll have access to, for overnight parking--via both Swift and also it's "sister" company, Knight--later, after you put in some satisfactory work--you should be able to then transfer to other divisions within Swift.

By that I mean--while you're at Swift--it would really be a great idea to sweeten up your CDL resume, by spending some time sampling the other types of freight that Swift does.

At Swift, you can do flatbed, dedicated, reefer, dry van, intermodal, and I believe they also do some heavy haul, as well.

You could spend some time with each of these types of freight--all without changing employers.

That's actually a pretty cool setup/opportunity--when you really think about it....

The more of those you try out before you exit Swift--the more potential income (and also, different driving opportunities) you can command, later.

With what freight are you starting out? Dry van--or something else?

Do you have any CDL endorsements, yet (tanker, hazmat, doubles/triples)?

You're in between Thanksgiving and Christmas, tough time to get lined up with a trainer.
Give it some time.

 

Is it a reefer outfit? Reefer outfits run hard during holiday season.

 

Get rid of the impatient attitude. It is going to drive you crazy out on the road... Trucking is all about waiting around for someone/something else... Use this as practice for that.

 

If it’s taking too long and you’re a non smoker. If you’re willing to deal with it you should be able to find a trainer quicker if you’re willing to deal with a smoker.
