Would a bad EGR Cooler mix coolant or would it burn It? Would it be black or white smoke ?

Leaking EGR cooler would leak coolant into the combustion chamber and out the exhaust. It would likely produce a steam or white smoke. Most of the smoke would be blocked or caught by the DPF and not so much noticeable out the stack. Upon removal the DPF will have a light pink color to the filter. Coolant may be found in oil sample but oil will not appear to be overfull or milky in appearance. Maybe more than normal moisture or condensation around the dipstick, oil fill or blow bye tube/ ccv filter.

Severe cases may cause hydrolocking or binding while cranking from coolant in the cylinders while setting.

2 weeks ago I went and checked the oil. 12 miles on oil change and dipstick and oil fill had oil/water mix . Sent oil sample in and showed no traces of water or coolant . When I picked up the truck from oil change coolant was below minimum line and no leak on the ground . Half quart to full quart missing in 900 miles. Stacks all white. Could see It blowing clouds this morning. Water/Oil in full tube with condensation . Yesterday driving heard a pop like a tire blew and happen 10 minutes later and now have a knock at high rpm’s but only while driving. Heard the pop 2 times this morning . Not sure what’s happening , someone mentioned a cam. Maybe look into that

EGR cooler won’t always show itself. My Volvo D13 had no symptoms. However, I was having DPF issues. When they split the can, the filter looked like a chunk of concrete. That sent them straight to removing the EGR cooler inspection plate where the found a coolant leak that caused the DPF to be like it was.

I actually had the pipes apart to clean them. Didn’t remove the cooler but did get a look at it

What’s in your oil fill cap is normal.

I’ve seen it on a variety of vehicles, of all kinds. Moisture is a natural part of the combustion process. It evaporates off, eventually. Ever see steam coming out the crankcase vent on an older truck? That’s what your seeing here, except it’s still inside the crankcase. The crankcase hasn’t heated up enough and evaporated off yet.

It looks like that even right after 300 miles. Also before the truck starts for the day . I did have to take the crankcase off the truck and clean it with its lines as The breather had a bunch of oil on it. I wonder if that crankcase is bad ? It’s the non serviceable case
