Thinking about the barns down there. The original one; north of town that burned, was the one I started in. Open the gate to the ring every Friday at ! PM.
Work the sale, check up and pen the purchases, then load for Indianapolis.
In later years there was Prairie Land and Cattle Co barn down south just before the Walmart.
Turning off 45A and across Yokohama Rd going to Prairie Livestock; you are crossing my old two south pastures. Daddy bought that 120 acres in 1949 for 10K. Bet the ROW for the road sold for more than that.
Is Jimmy Bryan owning/running Prairie still? I knew when the plant was sold to Sara Lee, he took the land and cattle. His cousin Johnny Bryan took a position with Sara Lee and went to the top there. Last time I saw Jimmy was in 1954. He was my helper on the Greenville route. Regular man was sick, Jimmy was working in the business and they sent him with me. Good young man, worked like a beaver and was already chewing tobacco like his dad.
Both sides of the Yokohama Rd you turn off on; in 52/53, was boot top deep in KY31 Fescue and Ladino clover. NJ Ranch with irrigation well pumping 8"
stream into a central pond and 4 " alum pipe /sprinkler heads. Could stop, stand, and watch grass grow....Last edited: Dec 4, 2022

Brass eh.......remember, this time of year, moist lips stick to metal!
Those Cali hooks look really cool, but this time of year I wonder if snow and ice weight can cause them to sag and drag.pete781693, Last Call, Dale thompson and 5 others Thank this. -
