i think you went way past the...."just get a new DOT med card" time line

you may very well have to start all the way back to CDL schooling.

I am in calif.
let my med card expire and dmv downgraded license to a class c.
was off for 3years and finally got my med card up to date.
took it to dmv and got class a reinstated with no test of any kind
back to work in 2018

 

I don't know your location. So, I recommend taking the DMVs word for it and getting a physical. I know a guy that got one back in the spring that resurrected his CDL. However, get ready to go through a refresher!

It's good the DMV, after you gave them a current DOT Medical card, said your CDL is back in effect. However, some trucking companies MAY expect you to go through their refresher course, or want you to go get a private refresher course before they can hire you. I would put my effort into finding the company you want to work for that has the pay, benefits, working conditions you need before I went to some CDL schools refresher course. If I found a trucking company, researched them, talked to numerous of their drivers, and all seems good then if the company told me that I needed a refresher course (company provided or private class) I would do it, even if I paid out of pocket. Make any company you want to research put you in contact with current workign drivers at the company doing the type of work you will be hired to do. Don't just rely on an online research effort. Ignore what the recruiter tells you about pay, conditions, benefits until it's verified with the drives you talk to.

Some companies may treat you like a rookies with a new CDL , some companies will treat you like a veteran driver with just a matter of getting past some sort of refresher requirement. Don't just apply to every company and then pick the company that seems to want to hire your the soonest or with the least hassle. Working at a company that is good for you will be a lot less trouble than any ol' random lying 1099 outfit making promises they have never kept. The outcome may depend on how much you know about that company you pick to work for.

Just pick up a side hustle like officiating some high school ball games in your area.Three days go to the city come back to the house with 1200 bucks and actually get some exercise instead of sitting on your butt all day.
