Who is/will be the 1st TTR member to drive Electric Semi-Truck?

    So true. I dont see why diesel engines cant co exist with say an electric truck or even a hydrogen truck or a hybrid electric/diesel truck... Its like the government or people that are on top of the power chain, force you to pick one team or the other. I think all the technology can be used for different applications.. Electric trucks would maybe be better off for short local work. But maybe a hybrid engine would be better for a long haul application for say reefer or van freight , and regular old diesel engines would be better for doing the big osow loads ... i dont see why they have to force stuff on everyone when the technology clearly isnt even close to being there yet... Just think we are still in the prototype phase of these electric trucks. And government is already making plans to stop production of gas and diesel engines... They havent even began to work out the bugs on this technology on a real day to day operational basis... Just crazy to me that people think so much government regulation and oversight is a good thing. Makes me worried about what the future is really gonna be like when a guy cant even do something as simple as buy the truck equipped with the power plant he prefers to use.

    Just look at the responses on here to any minor form of criticism. Very few have any sources to support their claims, never mind the mental gymnastics being performed to argue their point, yet if you question them... o_O

    Time will tell.

    I think, the diesel-hybrid might be workable, as it clearly has some advantages in locomotives. However, maybe the diesel engine and wheel motors end up being too much weight? I don’t know, the answer. But, I do know electric motors are incredibly heavy.

    Honestly, I don’t see the hybrid diesel electric as an optimal long term solution. It comes with MORE complexity: an electric system plus a diesel system. More stuff to break. Less reliability.

    In my view, the biggest motivator for anyone in the trucking business to go electric is to get away from diesel and after treatment systems in particular. What would it be worth to you to NEVER see a “go give money to the dealer” light again? Never do another regen, no more def sensors, never a de-rate? Or replacing turbos, chasing CAC leaks, etc, etc, etc.

    I’m not naive enough to suggest electric will be faultless: see the Chevy Volt experiences. I am convinced that once the tech matures, it will be much less prone to breakdowns than our current “clean” diesels.

    In the end, though, it’s going to come down to economics. I’ve been following the EV evolution pretty closely, and the cost structure of EVs appear to be lower than those of ICE vehicles.

    Looking into the future, the cost of fossil fuel is unlikely to decrease. The costs of wind and solar generation and batteries keeps dropping steadily, which makes me predict that even if EV’s aren’t competitive today, they will be, soon.

    Wind and solar are garbage and the truth is slowly coming out. But it’s always shoved to the side. That article even states that the estimates are way off.

    The government has never forced anything good upon us. That alone should open people’s eyes to what is going on here as well. But then look around at society and realize people are stupid and will continue to take the bait.

    Climate change (lol) and fossil fuels won’t end the world, stupidity will.

    Whats going to end the world is overpopulation, combined with not a single tree left on the planet. The rate humans are cutting down forests is incredible, yet, the green weenies aren’t standing before world leaders shouting about that, unfortunately.

    If the criticisms were valid there would be little pushback (at least on here, other forums . . .) But the "minor criticism " tends to be "the grid could never support evs" and "evs wont work in the cold" and "evs are worse for the environment" and the like.
