I would certainly NOT want cruise control on in ANY kind of icy conditions, better to be on the pedal to "get a feel" for the surface and cut reaction time down. Same way I wouldn't want cruise control in the rain, where the chance of hydroplaning would be increased by engaging cruise control. Just my $.02 on this subject... I reckon cruise control has been responsible for more than one fatality wreck in the past.

 

not to mention ice fog is the cb antenna killer ! if you have the stiff fiberglass ones. hope u carry a few spares.

My '20 Cascadia had no cruise once the radar T.R froze over. My '21 Cascadia could use a manual style CC if you pressed the magic button sequence on the radar display unit. Same applies with driving in ice and snow.

 

The wheel speed sensors and whatever control module that monitors them senses slippage long before any human could ever hope. The issue is the abruptness of intrusion. Semi-truck engineers need to go spend a whole lot of time with motorcycle engineers to learn how to properly program traction control. I can put a motorcycle on the edge of the tire and not worry about the TC tossing me on my head. However, in a semi-truck, I have to worry about TC chopping the throttle and jackknifing me off into the ditch. Just like so many other things with semi-trucks, the execution is lightyears behind everything else on the road. The cheapest POS car on the road still has better electronics than a semi-truck. Sad.

 

Ya, and they want to make self-driving trucks a reality.

 

Commercial versus consumer products. Theres a ton of absolute garbage in the consumer market, but also a lot of competition, with a durable good like a car, theres a wide array of mamufacturers to chose from, choice means manufacturers have to at least SOMEWHAT respond to feedback, commercial products, for whatever reason (i genuinely have no idea) you can produce garbage, never improve it and companies will still buy your product even at stupidly high prices.

 

We , in the Badger, UP, MN, anywhere with a lot of water, dealt with freezy fog, it was one of the things we ran through, as long as we didn't break traction. I remember more than once, running in that, and looking at the water temp almost pegged. Radiator totally plugged. Outside air cleaners too, losing power, had to chip that crap away. Mirror brackets, antennas, wipers loading up, you earned your .23/mile fo sho!
