Extra tall manual transmission shifting lever...you see them on youtube videos where the driver has to actually have their hand resting on the lever which is above their head in height. I this just for looks, or does it serve some function to have the lever this high?

I would assume that high would be looks.

I have mine extended 10” (which isn’t much) due to the fact I hate reaching down to shift. Why manufacturers put the shifter so low in some of these trucks is beyond me.

Best way to wear out shift forks . Many guys forget to tell you after awhile it pops out of gear on bumps .. if your extending it a bunch use aluminum to keep weight down .

The function is that it's a matched set with the chicken lights and anything else to make your truck look gaudy and obnoxious.

    gaud·y
extravagantly bright or showy, typically so as to be tasteless

I've had about 4 versions on tall shifter. First was really tall, I'm really tall and it was above my head. That didn't last long. Next couple were the same height just different bends. It was tall enough and placed so I could mostly keep my elbow on the arm rest and shift gears. I really like that and ran it many years. Now I'm back to normal height and I miss my slightly taller version.

Why did I put in a taller shifter? Because I can and I like messing with stuff

Funny, I used to cut the shifters down for a shorter throw and feel the gears better. Tall shifters are the industries version of saggy pants. It's not a pry bar,,:dontknow:

Usually just looks. Dumb looks but looks i guess....kinda like stanced cars on those itty bitty rims and tires. That said i did need to get one that was 12" longer then what came with my pete. Had to actully lean over to reach it since someone had bobbed mine at some point so it was really low. Now its even with the arm rest when im comfortable.
