Interstate 70 closed for semi-truck crash in Glenwood Canyon | 9news.com

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. — Interstate 70 was closed in both directions Monday in Glenwood Canyon after a semi-truck crash west of Hanging Lake Tunnel.

As of 11:50 a.m., the interstate was closed between Exit 133 at Dotsero and Exit 114 at West Glenwood Springs, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).

Photos tweeted by CDOT showed the semi-truck on its side in the westbound lands, partially crashed through the guardrail, with the cab blocking the eastbound lanes. It was unclear whether anyone was injured in the crash.

Other crashes also took place nearby as vehicles tried to avoid the crashed semi-truck, CDOT said

Might have been rubbernecking in scenic Glenwood Canyon after exiting the tunnel... I used to run that route all the time for one reefer outfit, hauling IBP loads from IA & NE to SoCal, then backhauling produce to the yard in IA. Colorado has some beautiful scenery, including Glenwood Canyon... but ya gotta keep an eye on the road. That stretch has the river right there, in fact there's a nice little rest area by the river, or there used to be one... I haven't driven through Glenwood Canyon in years. Bummer about the crash, but it's easy to be distracted by beautiful scenery... a subtle hazard, but it can STILL be a hazard, lol.

Is the alternative route suggested for semis 53' trailers (9 to 40 to 13 back to 70)?
