Everyone says get your 1 year experince and go to a smaller company for more money.
The only good jobs are hauling fuel and cryo or chemicals, doubles and triples LTL, Walmart and UPS where they stick a camera in your face all day paying $2200 a week.

    Everything else is garbage.

All I see are BS ads claiming high pay, but only paying $0.60 a mile for company driver. wanting you to run 1 million miles in a year to make $100k. hahahaha :)
    Companies lying thru their theeth.

I have 5 years dry van experince, clean record, clean psp, and just got my tanker and hazmat endorsments and twic.

Its rediculous .... I see hazmat tanker companies wanting to pay per mile. This is insane to me, how can you seriously look a driver in the face and tell him to drive a hazmat tank slow and safely but only want to pay them per mile.

    Trucking is a joke.

Show me one company I can haul a tanker and legitimately make $110,000 on a per hour basis without driver facing cams? If you found one then it is the purple squirrel of trucking.

If trucking is a joke, then go to another industry.. because there are plenty of companies that pay six figures without a camera staring at you in this industry

The secret to finding a good company is to realise the good companies aren't advertising... talk to drivers at a truckstop rather than recruiters.

Well...I'm tanker. No cameras period. 114k and change last year. I'm off highway though. M-F. Actually interviewing next week with a natural gas compression company and may change careers.

Instead of complaining about how much every company sucks, why don't you step up and get your own numbers? You want to make money and play by your own rules, then it's time to make it happen.

I mean, you can look for problems, or you can look for solutions.

Why does it have to be all about money? If you take a certain job just because it pays well then you will never be happy. It happens all the time, people leave company A because company B pays better. Then they are back here four months later saying, “I make good money but my job sucks! What should I do?”

I mean my job pays like ####, only made in the low 80k range last year, which is nowhere NEAR what it should be for the amount of work I do, but I love my job too much to quit!

If only you knew me, I am looking at EVERYTHING.

Work life balance and money is important.

I consider all details before starting a new job. No stone goes unturned. I have questions that I ask that most people never would ask, some questions I ask seem very basic on the surface but I ask them for very specifc reasons. (below are a few examples of questions) Problem is I find most truckers dont think like me. Most truckers are more than happy to sell themselves short.

The problem is further exacerbated by the amount of immagrants coming to the USA and getting into trucking, they are willing to work 60-70 hours a week for $1000 because in their mind $1000 is alot of money when converted to their home country currency. I have to compete agaist these foolish people.

    1. Find out any infomation you can on the health insurance plan. Does the company have a low deductible health plan, if not then are they paying more money for shifting the risk of health related costs onto you? If the health plan deductibles are high does the health plan qualify for a HSA account?

    2. Find out what state the company is located in. Is the company located in a state that requires the company to have health insurance that covers weight loss surgery.

    3. Does the company have 50 or more employees so I can have FMLA protections.

    Enlighten me pretty please?

    Enlighten me pretty please?

I have thought about this, it seems the best way to make money in trucking is to have a reliable pre emissions rebuilt engine manufactured on or before 2000 thats paid for in full. Know how to fix your own truck and trailer and get your own contracts. This is the way Mandalorian! :) Easier said than done though.

    D.Tibbitt Thanks this.
