The pay varies by location, whether union or not, etc,

For a union guy in toronto, you're looking at about $30 hr to start going up after probation to a top rate today of $33.90.

You will get time and a half after 8hrs per day, double time if you work after 9pm, and time and a half for any hours worked on saturday.

I'm not a junior guy so I'm not sure how many hours they are averaging, but I do know that we didn't lay anyone off for the winter this year or last.

All the big companies are looking to hire right now, Dufferin, CBM, Innocon and probably some of the smaller and non union places as well.

    Good luck

    Pete

You can make a ton of money in Redimix especially if you get on with a union company like Innocon . The biggest problem is alot of the big companies are seniority based so top guys get the work first . Hours could be all over the place especially during the winter or fall months . Then from spring and summer crazy long days like starting at 6 or 7am and not getting home until 8 or 9pm . Again if a union shop most pay overtime after 8 or 9 hrs . Like all trucking companies each terminal or location depends on the dispatcher and management . my local redimix company is always hiring and hear they’re not a very good company to work for .

One thing about the construction industry is you need to have really thick skin because there’s a lot of yelling and shouting and pissed of people and some of that will be directed at you . I found that out first hand hauling Asphalt

It's a little dirtier than hauling dry freight, and not every one can get their head around making less than 40 hrs in the winter.

Chutes, removing them, carrying them, assembling them and then reverse the order when you're done pouring and washing out.
    Wash down hoses that leak.
Wash down hoses that are kinked and too short.
Having wet feet all the time until you learn how to stay dry.
Job foremen who communicate by yelling.
Job foremen who communicate by yelling in a language other than English.
Homeowners who have no idea where a mixer can and cannot go.
    Doing post hole work.
    Unloading into wheelbarrows.
    Unloading into helicopter buckets
Other drivers who "chisel" at the pump and slip part of their load in before you're done.
Pump operators who want a different slump than the one they ordered but don't want you adding too much water.
Pump operators who order too many trucks too close together.
Pump operators who order too few trucks too far apart.
Dispatchers who lie to the customer..."That truck left the yard twenty minutes ago" when you're not even finished loading.
Dispatchers who watch your clock for you..."Joe did that run in thirty five minutes, it took you forty minutes. What's up?"
Dispatchers who won't fight when they're called out.
Customers who are pissed off because you're late...see above.
Weird starting times. Very seldom is your starting time the same every day. Never, actually.
Working eighty hours one week and twenty hours the next. Construction determines the work load.

There are more, lot's more, but this will give you a start. People either hate mixer work or they love it.

I would say that sums it up pretty good ,again you better have thick skin and don’t let everything bother you if you want to make it as a driver in the construction industry
