Depends on the state. Some allow overhang up to a certain amount. Others you need a overlength permit for, which is really easy to get

 

Depends on state your in, TX we run permits for 120’, think you need permit for over 55’ or longer on a 48’ trailer. OK you just need to keep it 80’ or under

Done that a few times…Many years ago, we bought the Brazilian apitong. I’d hate to imagine the price of that stuff these days. I remember the splinters would sting for days. Last time we replaced a deck we just bought boards from a sawmill

 

If I recall correctly,you’re still young. When you get that deck replaced,just take note of what you feel like. That will be all day every day in 20 years

 

Maximum Load Length – The length limit varies depending on whether the load travels on the Federal Interstate system, U S Highways or State highways. In some situations, loads can overhang 4′ off a 48′ trailer. No overhang is allowed on 53′ trailers.
Loads exceeding 53′ can be transported on properly permitted stretch trailers.
The load maximums apply to the load and trailer combined. The height maximum, for example is 13’6″ from the ground including both the trailer and the load.

I vaguely remember it being 3 ft, maximum, front and/or back, but this reference says it's DOT, and I'm not sure if it's newer than I remember..so...I could be wrong or it could have been changed or this reference is wrong...but there you go, and like the others say, it varies by state after the federal minimum whether it needs a permit or not beyond that.
