Has anyone ever heard of a truck being a 6 speed? Makes me wonder about the validity of that trucking school.

I drove a 6-speed for a few years. It was ok for the type of work we were doing, pulling 45' and shorter reefers.

As long as it's a non-synchronized transmission, it doesn't really matter how many gears it is. It's the learning to get the timing and the RPM match down that matters. Once you've mastered shifting, it's only a slight adjustment to change to a different transmission.

Well, it's much better than teaching in an only automatic transmission.

I don't think there should have been an option, but now that its an actual endorsement, I guess I'll have to be OK with it. I just makes more sense to learn it in a controlled setting before getting locked out of better jobs or finding a quick replacement job with more options

Does anyone remember the Maxidyne with a 5 speed tranny developed in the 60's by Mack? It was a low rpm high torque turbo charged engine.

    JolliRoger and Speedy356 Thank this.
