I'm looking at a 2016 International 7600 with 129k miles, 10 speed auto, has the Navistar N13 engine. Read mixed reviews on it, but wanted to see if you can figure out by the data sheet whether its the newer or older version. I'll try and upload specs from the order sheet here as well as a photo. Truck appears in great shape, it was leased and then the owner bought it out and now he bought a smaller F750. If there is anything I should look out for, let me know, it drove great. 21062CFC-8519-43EE-BBB4-4764AEED93D9.jpeg

Why would you buy any type of Navistar motor.

Chieftans, as in THE Chieftans? ☘️

From what I've read maxxforce navistar motors were pretty unreliable. But the later N13's seem to have had much better luck. I've had little luck finding a freightliner with the cummins engine in my pricerange that will answer the phone. I need this to last me a year or two and be able to tow my backhoe or mini ex as well on short hauls. I'd bite the bullet and buy new but not getting any deliveries until the end of the year and I don't know what my state is going to do with diesel engine. These tyrants want everything to be electric in about 10 years, so I'm hesitant to make a $250k investment right now if that makes sense.

Check this one out, but they wont respond to the ad and there's no phone #. https://www.commercialtrucktrader.com/listing/2016-Freightliner-BUSINESS+CLASS+M2+106-5024441234

Probably could get a full size dump with older pre emissions engine for way less than that

Those cabs are trash, and were when introduced in 2000,01.

I'm curious what is trash about them? I don't have much to compare with.

Trash as in poorly made, bad connection locations for wiring and cheap electronics. Not made like the old Internationals used to be.

I worked on those trucks a lot while working for an electric utility for 15 years. I had a fleet of fourteen of them. Other than patching a couple rust holes in the floor of two different trucks the cabs were never a problem. Door hinges wear out if you don't lube them occasionally but the are very easy to change. I've been working for an international dealer for a few years now as well.
The electrical systems are no better or worse than any other truck.
The Maxxfarce big bore engines the 11 13 and 15 are problematic and are difficult to work on. That truck has a very small engine compartment and the N13 is a very tight fit making it difficult to work on. I have only worked on two N13 engines and it seemed like anything you wanted to access had something in the way that had to be removed first. That translates to a big labour bill if it goes into the shop.
I would advise passing on the truck. If it had Maxxfarce 9 or 10 under the hood it would be worth considering but not with the N13.
