    Wooooowww...!!!

That suggests to me that they are far more desperate for new blood than I would have first thought (at least, in that area).

If they do make you an offer...the only negative I see here is....if you leave that job anytime soon, for another (i.e., on your own...not furloughed, or similar).....you will indeed look silly. :geek:

Do let us know how it goes.....

Whatever I start is where I am staying for better or worse for 18 months minimum unless it's beyond my control.
I learned my lesson in my former career. I had too many jobs because I moved a lot to different areas of the country or state I was in. As a result I could never break into the insurance company side of the business.

    Later on....if you do on-board with this carrier....you may be "spooked".....by a less-than-good trainer.

Well, not all trainers are natural-born teachers; it's just a fact of life....they can't all be "top guns".

My trainer, back at Schneider, was certainly nothing to write home about.

If you're fortunate--you will be passed from one trainer on to another...and then another...as you progress thru their on-boarding/training/grooming process.

Suggestion: tough it out. Being new (and new in trucking) basically sucks, anyway.

Hopefully....I'll pretty much be proven wrong--and all your trainers will instead turn out to be God's gift to the trucking world. :p :)

Yeah that was my experience at Millis. My "trainer" was certainly "pathic" of some sorts. Talked about self non-stop, Army days, fringe wacko right wing conspiracy theory and Ben Shapiro tik toks and worse, must have been honorary Italian because he talked with his hands... alot.... which normally isn't a big deal until you cant see your passenger side mirror when turning. My buddy from school got an awesome trainer. I would have asked for a do over trainer but .45 a mile isn't hard to beat.

Awesome advice Lual, Union jobs can be hard to break into and your reward as an older worker is often times diminished EXCEPT for their usually great health care and some type of retirement. Like government, the longer you stay the richer the rewards.

It's not necessarily along the lines of what I was hoping to do long term. I want to do Cryogenics eventually. But I guess it will give me the training and the the seat time I need to get into that part of the business. I doubt I'll get paid more. If I got $34 an hour elsewhere the benefits would probably knock it down to the same or less then that.

Some GOOD news: that cryogenics world....can wait.

If my predictions hold up (and I have some good reasons to think that)....should you later look into cryogenics....that world will be even bigger than it is, now.

You certainly won't be "missing the boat". :p :D

I won't get tanker experience but I need hazmat for the job I am interviewing for in the morning. So at least I'll get some possible hazmate experience. The recruiter was shocked that I had all the endorsements already and said it was a great move on my part.

    Don't sweat it.

A lot of tanker jobs now (e.g., like cryo duty) don't require previous tanker experience (anymore).

As you're witnessing now--it's basically a driver's market out there, and many fleets are desperate for more/new help.

I got the job with YRC!!! I start in about 30 days which is perfect. It's about a month of trianing at $26 and then $27 after that. The bad part is it is about 4 hours a day of dock work. But I'll get at least 10 hours a week of OT. I can offer to work more which I will if it's available. It's also nights but I actually want nights so I can still day trade a little bit. It's teamsters union. The boss was funny... He said that a lot of guys get their CDL or go through the training with them and then get a better, higher paying job because they are on the low end of the Teamsters pay scale and they lost their pension program. I don't care. It's 100% paid health, dental and vision benifits for me and my wife. I'll pay my dues with this job and it is what it is. Once I get a year to 18 months, if it sucks, then I'll make a move. I could probably get into UPS from there or just get into Cryo like I want to.

Sage advice here on these forums! The amount of people who are willing to share their years of experience is an absolute blessing! Especially when you dont have years left............ pay it forward!

Pssst... Postal Service, $30 an hour to start + locality pay (finding the federal schedule is a pain to find). Retirement, PTO, Sick Leave the whole shebang.....

The only way i get time off is if people stop eating cheese, lol.
