Sorry to make a thread but this was posted in a job listing and not sure what it really means.

Many times it means we will pay $300 less a week than competition but give you a $250 hiring bonus if you meet all the criteria that were free to change at anytime lol

    Seth0194 Thanks this.

I see where some companies now call that a "retention bonus"...instead of the more usual "sign-on" bonus.

I view bonuses as a fun indicator of just how "desperate" a fleet is....for new(er) drivers:
    • No bonus mentioned -- we're doing ok (at the moment, anyway)
    • $2,500 bonus -- We'd much appreciate a call/app from you....keeping our heads above water (for now)
    • $5,000 bonus -- We're too busy for the drivers that haven't gotten fed-up and left yet.....
    • $10k bonus -- We're super-desperate...and it real-ly sux to work/drive here....please....send us an app <<<drowning noises>>>
    • $10k+ bonus --    ......

Some companies will spread their bonuses or reimbursement over large amounts of time because they know you’re not going to stay that long on average. For instance, Schneider Says they will reimburse $7200 for tuition reimbursement, actually it’s spread over 36 months at $200 a month.
