    "Hello everyone,
I am going to start a trucking company. I currently own a pub and grill. I've always been interested in semi-trucks since I was a kid. My pub is doing well and I want to diversify. I'm going to buy a truck and trailer and hire a driver.
What do I need to do to start and how much money will it take?"

If you have read this far, bravo!! The forum hasn't seen a topic like this in a while. So I thought I would start one for some fun!! LOL!!!

Probably have to use revenue from the bar to supplement the trucking company.

Looked in to buying a 1 ton flatdeck to put on with a local hot shot/expediter a couple years ago and I'd have been further ahead burning my money in a fire pit. By the time I covered driver wages, insurance, maintenance and put money into a fund for eventual truck replacement I'd be owing money at the end of the month. That's if I were to pay the driver $15/hour minimum wage (which I wouldn't, can't live off peanuts).

Not is NOT the time to start one, freight is slow and the spot is extremely cheap.

Hopefully things will pick up in a few months, but no one knows for sure.

First thing when starting a company, even with only one truck is cash. You want to put enough down on your equipment to have a manageable payment. In my opinion, a $1200 a month for both truck and trailer is a manageable payment. Then of course you need operating capital to pay for fuel, maintenance and repairs. This is by far what sinks every new owner operator. I would recommend at least $25k

Put the Pub and Grill up for collateral, that way the bank will get more than the trucks back when you declare bankruptcy.

I think there were like four threads created last week.

Does OOIDA help drivers or give advice with starting a small trucking company?
