I recently opened my LLC and planning on doing car hauling by my own. I worked for companies before. So my question: can somebody explain me what is the difference between MC and USDOT numbers?
    I haven’t bought truck yet.
    1. Can I get these 2 numbers before buying truck?
    2. How much is monthly or annual fees or any applicable fees for these numbers?
    3. What are the requirements? (Do I have to buy insurance first?)

Anything extra you want to add is appreciated

All the information you want to know is listed on the fmcsa website.. Usdot number is needed for any carrier involved in interstate commerce. An mc number is needed when hauling for hire.. You can get these numbers at anytime by applying thru the fmcsa. Your mc number will not be activated until valid insurance is on file.. With an inactive mc number you will not be able to haul freight..

There is fees associated with filing these numbers. It is a couple hundred bucks to set up a new authority and doesn't cost anything after that . Your mc number will be deactivated if you cancel insurance. I'd recommend going to the fmcsa website and reading all you can before applying for authority there is hundreds of hoops to jump thru.

I am reading there as well. It is little confusing. So for USDOT as I understand not much requirements- it means I can get it even before I buy a truck and insurance???
. And can I get somebody else's MC and usdot ? I have friend who have had it for years and not using it. Just not sure if I can be new owner of his numbers.?

You could "buy" his authority and numbers, but when transferring it the FMCSA will give you a new number. The MC number is for authority, the USDOT number is for tracking the insurance etc. The USDOT number is usually the only one that you are identified from. You can apply for the numbers without a truck, but the authority will not be granted until 21 days after the insurance if filed and effective. It takes a form from the insurance company that they agree to continue coverage for 30 days if you fail to pay the premiums.

Also you will be placed in a “new entrants” probation period and you will be audited by your state’s DOT and you must pass that audit before probation is lifted. And you will be more heavily scrutinized at weight stations subjected to inspections. Just fyi.
