Hey guys, would like some input with real world numbers on end dump weights. I've run end dumps alot, always aluminum bodied though with both steel and aluminum frames. I know traditional thought is max payload and minimum weight but I have a unique job that is a little different than normal end dump work. Job is local haul, very short loop with 15 or more dumps a day, loaded both ways. The route is only a couple miles and half of it is offroad. The backhaul involves dumping unprocessed Rapp (asphalt milling, some fine, some in Boulder sized chunks). All tri axles like mine that I currently run the route with are steel bodied and even those suffer wear due to the sheer amount of material crossing through them. The guys pulling end dumps on the job are all framed trailers because of the unstable ground that the Rapp is dumped in, but their trailers are all aluminum bodied and they take a severe beating. The liners ($10,000) seem to only last a year or two and the sides of the trailer and tailgate take a huge beating. (Constant welding). Even though it may cost me some legal payload, im thinking a half round steel demo trailer or even just a steel end dump in general is the way to go for this situation. What is the real world weight difference between a 30ft aluminum bodied, steel framed end dump and a 30ft steel bodied, steel framed end dump? Due to the extreme nature of the dump site trailer length is limited to 28-32ft and framed is a necessity. I'd like to hear some real world numbers for people running similar setups. I just bought a 379 daycab road tractor with 46k rears and a wetline and it weighs in around 18k. My rough guesstimate with a tri axle steel framed end dump with aluminum body in the 30ft range would be a combo that weighs in around 32k-34k I think. Would a steel body put me at 35-37? Or are we talking 40k plus? Thanks guys.

I've seen their "monster 4" half round trailer in action, seemed like a serious heavy duty trailer for sure, no clue on weight, but if I was in the Boulder hauling biz that's what I'd own.

AR 400 is the best liner,an old steel dump is the best for that work.I think you'll be 36,000 to 38,000 empty.

AR all the way, I agree with that, no mild steel here. And if I was near 36,000 all in I'd be ecstatic. Even at 39,000 I guess wouldn't be Terrible because with a tri axle trailer I can permit for 107,000 in NY and thats still 34 tons of legal payload so it would still be a hireable combo for other jobs if the need arises. I'd love to hear from someone with an old steel trailer on real weights, but it seems alot of the guys running them are using them on their own jobs for stump or concrete debris removal so they aren't really passing through any scales. Did spot a Borco all steel trailer near me on single point spring ride, seemed like a pretty tough custom trailer for this type of work. Only downside is it was a tandem, but at 30' there is enough frame to put a drop axle on and I may have an old tandem wheeled straight drop axle to put on.

We had an older Clement,24 yd.We used it for years hauling concrete demo and big rock, never had a problem with it.
It was years ago and I can't remember weights,we were all off road.

What state are you in? In MA we are good for 99k

Depends on how it’s spec, my uncle has an older trailstar with an aluminum 28’ tub/steel frame on center point and a hydro tarp, 11r24.5s which weighs 13,920, last year I purchased a new MTM 28’ steel trailer, quarter frame, air ride, tall 22s, electric tarp which comes in at 14,200, a full frame will probably be closer to 15 though but I hate full frame trailers and I wanted to loose a little weight to make up for the bunk, I can still get 32 ton in legally,

Oh and a high lift gate is a must ar 450 5/16 floor 3/16 walls 8F7A68F5-85E6-4744-883C-55335E80E85C.jpeg
