Abilene Motor Express....A New Place To Call Home

Got a new load assignment this morning. Travel to rural Kentucky to pick up a load of Pop-Tarts.

This is a new lane we got a few months back, and I've done the run three times so far. Deliveries have been to York, PA or Lancaster, PA. Drop and hook both ends.

It's a fun run except for the fact that the shipper is out in East Jesus somewhere. There's about a five-hour window traveling to and from the shipper where you won't run into any place with truck parking, and that's assuming your loaded trailer is actually loaded when you arrive.

Load assignment has the trailer being ready for pick-up at 7:00pm tonight, due in Lancaster Tuesday at 3:00pm. That's 92 hours to make an 8-hour drive.

Since there is clearly no urgency attached to this load, and since I've been running on recap, I decided to take a 34 here in London, OH. Will roll out of here in the morning, grab the load tomorrow around 11:00am, and deliver it to the receiver a day and a half early sometime Monday.

 

Turns out the the truck I was going to move into was getting no power to the ACM module and that be why the DEF level sensor is reading zero despite being full. Mechanic said might need the wiring harness replaced. No freight anyway so Ill put in for a day layover and see what Monday brings. See if the body shop has any painted panels for my left bumper piece and might have to keep driving the 21’ Volvo Im in now. Runs good despite the 467k miles on it and check engine light keeps coming back after they clear it plus it will do 70 on the pedal and 73 on cruise since new tires were put on last year.

Ended up getting a whole new left bumper piece instead of just the panel being it was cracked on the bottom and new plate wouldn’t hold. Only had seven loads available so my DM snagged a groveport from jarratt for me first thing, got pushed out to 0300 tomorrow morning pickup instead of today so DM going to try and get me two days layover. Sounds like there is going to be an argument over me sitting yesterday cuz I was told Sat that freight was cleaned out for the weekend then this morning someone was saying freight wasn’t cleaned out til Sunday afternoon. Im only going by what was told Sat. Hoping I get at least one day layover. Good grief…..

 

I can tell it’s Friday. Lots of Abilene trucks up and down 460 around my house. I’m guessing either Givens or Damco. Safe travels to all of you out there this weekend.

 

That Abilene newsletter I got in my email telling me to "keep an open mind" regarding some upcoming changes is enough to make a man nervous.
