I'm not a big fan of the RJ45 modular mic connector, especially in a mobile environment. With the weight of the mic cord and over time, the wires get exposed. Then you have to install a new connector, which isn't easy, even with the crimp tool. I have a couple of radios that use the modular jack, they would be better on a base station radio rather than mobile. -

I've got a yaesu 2800 mobile radio with an RJ 45 mic cable, that I use as a base radio only, and the cable is still good after several years. But the radio doesn't get used as much as my radios in a mobile environment either.Vampire Thanks this. -

Not an issue on the NII. There's a setting in the menu for electret or dynamic mic. I believe the new 5555's have this setting too. Radio sounds awesome on AM (and SSB) with a 636 N/C mic. Not usually the case with an Anytone radio. Most of them prefer an electret mic unless modified.
